Nashik : The Bharatiya Janata Party was elected to power in Nashik Municipal Corporation with majority votes after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis during his campaign rally had announced that he would adopt Nashik. After adopting Nashik, he is arriving at Nashik Municipal Corporation on Sunday (May 28) for the first time. Meeting of officials will be held in his presence and administration will demand Rs. 2000 crore from him for city’s development.
Development works have stalled following increase in liabilities on NMC post elections. It has to give its share for central and state government schemes like Smart City Mission, Amrut Yojna. The revenue of NMC is under Rs. 1000 crore only. It can undertake development works only if grants are received from central government.
On the backdrop of all this, financial condition of NMC has become critical. Last month it had to withdraw money from its term deposit to make salaries of officials and employees. MLAs, MPs, people’s representatives and various organisations had demanded the Chief Minister to do something about development works and resolve the problems. Considering this, he has called a meeting with NMC officials on Sunday at 12.30 pm.
