Nashik : As Shiv Sena candidates withdrew from fray, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Saroj Ahire was elected unopposed as chairperson of NMC Women and Child Welfare Committee during the election held to elect the chairperson, whereas Kaveri Ghuge was also elected unopposed as deputy chairperson. As BJP has majority on this committee, election became a formality only.
The election to elect the chairperson and deputy chairperson was held in the hall of Women and Child Welfare Committee at Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan at 4 pm. Additional Municipal Commissioner Jyotiba Patil presided over election process as presiding officer.
After election process began, dais officer Patil conducted scrutiny of two nominations filed for the post of chairperson and declared that nominations filed by BJP’s Saroj Ahire and Shiv Sena’s Nayana Gangurde were valid. He allowed 15 minutes’ time to withdraw nominations. Shiv Sena’s Nayana Gangurde gave a letter mentioning her withdrawal to the dais officer. As Saroj Ahire alone remained in the fray, she was declared elected as chairperson.
Thereafter a process to elect the deputy chairperson was started. The dais officer declared nomination filed by Kaveri Ghuge valid during scrutiny. The members requested to announce her election as deputy chairperson as she remained alone in the fray, but the dais officer stated that a time has to be given for withdrawal and allowed 15 minutes’ time. The dais officer declared then election of Ghuge as deputy chairperson.
After completion of election process, the dais officer felicitated both newly elected chairperson and deputy chairperson with bouquets.
Members of Women and Child Welfare Committee Bhagyashri Dhomse, Shital Malode, Priyanka Ghate, Shiv Sena’s Satyabhama Gadekar, Nayana Gangurde, Poonam Mogre and NCP’s Samina Memon were present.
Thereafter, city BJP chief MLA Balasaheb Sanap, Mayor Ranjana Bhansi, Deputy Mayor Prathmesh Gite, BJP group leader Sambhaji Moruskar and corporator Uddhav Nimse felicitated newly elected chairperson and deputy chairperson with bouquets. BJP office bearers, corporators and activists were also present.
‘Efforts will be taken to improve quality of Anganwadi’
The fund of Women and Child Welfare Committee will be used properly and efforts will be taken to bring fund from state and central government schemes. In addition, new technologies will be brought to improve quality of Anganwadi and to increase number of children, reacted newly elected chairperson Saroj Ahire, whereas Kaveri Ghuge said that new schemes for women will be brought and efforts will be taken to reach the schemes to them. Efforts will also be taken to bring women and children into main stream, she added.
