Igatpuri/Nashik : Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), India’s leading SUV manufacturer, has taken the initiative to transform its Igatpuri plant, into a plastic bottle free plant. Under its sustainability drive, the employees and the management of the Igatpuri plant have collected over 1 lakh waste plastic bottles from its employees & their families and its surrounding areas such as schools, hotels and railway station.

The Igatpuri plant applied for the Guinness Book of World Records for installing the World’s Biggest Plastic Bottle Monster, all of 21 meter high, using the huge stock of amassed waste plastic bottles.

Keeping in tune with the company’s sustainability drive, it has always been Mahindra’s endeavour to improve the quality of life of its employees, their families and the community at large.

As per a Central Pollution Control Board survey, the quantum of plastic waste generation is estimated to be 15,342.6 tonnes per day in 60 cities nationwide. However, merely 9205 tonnes per day of plastic waste is collected and recycled with the remaining 6137 tonnes being uncollected and littered. Hence, such unique approach to highlight the important issue of the ever increasing plastic waste is a critical necessity, if the problem needs to be mitigated.
