Nashik: A 60-foot model of the clock tower at NMC office on Main Road will be set up on the stadium gallery on late Anant Kanhere cricket ground at Golf Club ground. The tower will be so designed that it becomes known as a historic site. A proposal regarding this will be tabled soon in General Body Meeting.
The building of the local board during British regime on Main Road is being used as the NMC divisional office now. A clock tower has been installed at this historic building which is more than 100 years old. Citizens in the district are aware about this, but as high-rise buildings have come up around this building, the tower is not visible from a distance anymore. Former Mayor Adv. Yatin Wagh had planned to install the model of this tower on late Anant Kanhere cricket ground to preserve this historic clock tower. Former corporator Sujata Dere had tabled proposal about this, but it was pending due to shortage of funds.
As administration has started to take steps for setting up this clock tower again, chairperson of west divisional committee Dr. Hemlata Patil agreed to make provision from her special fund. As a result, construction department has started to make the proposal again. Expenditure of Rs. 15-20 lakh is likely to be incurred for this.
This proposal will be tabled in General Body Meeting soon. After approval by the GBM, e-tenders for the work will be floated. Sanjay Khatri of Lancer company has prepared design of the model after taking measurements of clock tower at NMC divisional building. Outer part of the tower will be made from plastic and its inner structure will be metal. The lower part of the structure will be 22 feet high, the dome housing the clock will be 10 feet high and the upper part will be 8-feet high. The 10-foot high clock will run on an electronic movement.
