Satpur : While working in the defence sector, the aim should not be to think about just Nashik or India, it should be about reaching the global market. As HAL itself is coming forward to create industrialists in this sector with all cooperation, industrialists should take benefit of this opportunity, urged Chief Executive Officer of HAL Daljit Singh.
He was speaking in a programme ‘Self reliance through import substitution Su-30 MKI’, organised jointly by HAL and Nashik Engineering Cluster. District Collector Radhakrishnan B, NIMA chief Harishankar Banerjee, CII president Avinash Chintawar, Chief Executive Officer of HAL Rajiv Kumar and Chief Executive Officer of NEC Subhashish Roy were present on the dais.
Daljit Singh further said that production related to defence sector will not happen in a single night and the numbers too will be very less. Period required for this will be long. In addition, percentage of profit will be less. There is a need to focus attention on developing capability to send parts to foreign airplane companies while helping to stop imports. HAL will provide its total cooperation for this, he informed. While giving technical information, Rajiv Kumar stated that import of spare parts required for defence sector has increased by 40% in last four years. 67% spare parts are imported from Russia, whereas 20% spare parts are imported from US and 10% spare parts are imported from Israel. Small countries can export defence productions.
“If we decide, we can also manufacture defence equipment. 70% engineers in our country are unemployable due to lack of skills. 30% engineers at NASA are Indian. If this is possible there, why can’t it happen here in India? What is important is the mindset required for this,” he said.
Earlier, NIMA president Harishankar Banerjee informed about ‘Make in India’ project and industrialists should connect with defence sector to encourage entrepreneurship. Avinash Chintawar also expressed his views. Meanwhile, a CD related to various productions by HAL was released by prominent personalities.
