Nashik : The Nashik District Maratha Vidya Prasarak Samaj (NDMVPS) — an institution which has emerged as one of the most prominent educational platforms in North Maharashtra and second in Maharashtra, is going to the polls today for its five-yearly election to be held for a total of 21 posts of office bearers and directors.
Fate of as many as 52 candidates will sealed in the ballot box today with as many as 10,611 lifetime members of the NDMVPS across the district likely to exercise their right to franchise.
Also, the fate of Pragati Panel led by sitting general secretary Neelima Pawar and the Samaj Vikas Panel led jointly by former MP Pratapdada Sonawane and Adv Nitin Thakare will be known on Monday (Aug 14) when poll officials begin counting of the votes polled, in the morning at KTHM college gymkhana here.
All eyes are on today’s polls as this closely fought electoral battle will see direct contest between sitting general secretary (sarchitnis) Neelima Pawar and the sitting chairperson (sabhapati) Adv Nitin Thakare, and between sitting president Pratapdada Sonawane and rival candidate Tushar Shewale.
Altogether 12 booths have been set up in Niphad taluka where the institution enjoys largest electoral base, while less number of booths have been set up at polling centres of Yeola, Igatpuri and Nandgaon due to minimal number of voters.
